Patates Frites version of the Smith's Karrier Joe's Diner Mobile Canteen by Corgi
The Patates Frites version of the Smith's Karrier Joe's Diner Mobile Canteen ref471 by Corgi from 1965.
Finished in blue and silver with an orange roof, this rare version of the mobile canteen featured an opening side counter, a swivelling chef figure inside the fitted kitchen area and silver shaped wheel hubs.
This very scarce version with the Patates Frites decals was the first 'special' to be manufactured by Corgi in 1965 for the European market, and went on sale in Belgium, home of the 'patates frites', showing a cornet of chips on the side drop-down bar counter, rather than the familiar 'Joe's Diner' decal.
Sales compared to the English version were small, so any examples of this great little model are getting very hard to find anywhere these days.

This particular model was sold on ebay by George's Good Stuff in June 2006 for £360 in the following condition:
Like most of the beautiful Corgi models I sell, this is in immaculate mint perfect condition, not a mark on it anywhere, it's an absolute beauty, and it comes in its superb original box which has an original 5 Belgian francs toyshop label on one end flap and is showing a little light age wear and two or three very very small (ballpoint-sized) light puncture marks on one non-picture side, but overall is clean, crisp and 100 per cent complete - very nice indeed!
Also present is the very rare correct original Join The Corgi Model Club leaflet, with instructions on one side on how to operate the model's Trans-O-Lite headlamps - I can't recall ever seeing this correct slip before with previous examples of this model, so this in itself is something of a very rare collector's item.
