Slot cars

Slot car racing, if you don't already know is based on a simple design concept of a plastic track(for home circuits) or wooden track(for proffessional circuits) with metal slotted runners and cars with pickup guide that runs in the slot on the track and passed the power to and electric motor geared to the cars wheels. It's simplicity is partly what makes it such a popular hobby. Slot car racing has been getting more and more popular over the past 40+ years with many new slot car manufacturers entering the marketsplace.

The manufacturers

Scalextric started the slot racing bug back in the 1960's with relatively simple cars. The Aston Martin DB was one of the great models of the early days which came in many different guises such as this Marshalls car that is becoming harder and harder to come by today
The more recent Scalextric models are becoming more detailed and stick to the track like glue. A good example is the recent GT40 racing car that can be argued as being one of the best cars produced by Scalextric.
Recently, manufacturers such as Fly and Revell have been producing highly detailed slot cars that not only race well but look great too. Pink-Kar make some great retro models such as the VW Beetle and the Fiat Abarth that look good but most are poor racers. These are great models if you want to host a retro race day but not so good for competing at club races!

Over recent years, slot cars have become so well detailed that many owners prefer to keep them as display models rather than race them.

Which ones to choose

The best way to choose your next purchase is to have a look at what's available from the different slot car manufacturers.
You'll find some of them listed under the manufacturers sections below or in the main navigation section. If you can't find what you're looking for, why not search the Slot car section on ebay found here.

The Slot Car Section

We started the slot car section in January 2006 with a subsection for the mighty Scalextric with just one car, the Scalextric Capri C300 with flames. Since then we've added some early Scalextric Aston Martins and Jaguars. These slot cars really helped to make slot car racing what it is today.

Towards the end of January 2006 we added the rereleased versions of the Scalextric Ferrari 156 and the Scalextric Cooper Climax T53.

New sections for Ninco and Carrera were added at the beginning of March 2006. Initially, we will be adding the James Bond related models produced by Carrera, starting with the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish
